CFL Season Kicks Off

Football is finally back! I have been watching the CFL futures on Sports Interaction for a little while. There are some weird odds posted by this sportsbook, which will happen on there frequently. One odd thing I noticed was that they had Edmonton at +450 to win the west but at +550 to win the Grey Cup. They have now dropped Edmonton to +200 to win the west and +350 to win the Grey Cup.

Anyways, I do like Edmonton to give Calgary a run at the Western Division Championship this year. I do think that Calgary will have the best record and host the Division Championship game so it will be tough to beat them. The Grey Cup is also in Calgary this year.

For tonight’s game I think Hamilton is good value.

In baseball tonight I really like the Chicago White Sox to complete the sweep over the Cleveland Indians. The Indians look like they have given up and the Chicago offence is coming around. Also, Sowers has trouble against the White Sox, in five career starts he is 0-4, two of those losses are this year.

Go Under at Citi

Brad Thompson takes on Fernando Nieve tonight as the Cardinals and Mets continue their series. Both pitchers are coming into their own right now. Last night the two teams combined for three runs, due in large part to a solid outing by Joel Pinero. Pinero allowed just two hits as he threw the complete game for the Cardinals. I like the game tonight to go under the total again.

Sliding Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies have lost six games in a row, having been swept by Toronto and Baltimore. They are now beginning a road trip in Tampa Bay against the team they beat in the World Series last season.

I think this is a good time to bet against the Phillies, I usually like going against teams when they are on losing streaks. Tonight’s pitching match up is Jamie Moyer vs. David Price. I think the youngster has the upper hand amongst the southpaws.

Key Stats:

Price has a home ERA of 1.80

Opponents are hitting .189 against Price at Tropicana Field

Opponents are hitting .328 against Moyer this season

Moyer’s record is 4-6 on one of the best hitting teams in baseball

I don’t think Moyer will be able to end the Phillies’ losing streak tonight. Tampa Bay is a good play tonight.

U.S. Open Preview

There is some rain in the forecast for this weekend’s U.S. Open from Bethpage Black. The course already plays long, soggy conditions make it that much longer. It’s time to back some long hitters. Here are some picks I like.

Dustin Johnson (120.0)

Kenny Perry (85.0)

Hunter Mahan (75.0)

(Odds are from Betfair)

Had to take a little loss on this one. I don’t feel I did anything wrong here, I still got bets at above value. Sometimes things just don’t work out.

Winner Take All

It has come down to one game for the Stanley Cup. This is about as exciting as it gets for hockey fans. You can’t even imagine the nervous energy that will be in each dressing room just prior to the game. Because of this nervousness I am expecting to see a cautious game on both sides. Players will be scared to make a mistake and play overly on the conservative side.

Not only will it be the players that will be scared to make a deciding mistake, but this will be in the minds of the referees. In game six each side had just two power play opportunities, I expect this number to be around the same. Taking these points into consideration I think the under is a great play here. None of the six games in the Stanley Cup Finals have gone over 6.5 goals.

Memorable Tournament

I apologize for not posting in a while. I just got back from Saskatoon where I was representing my province (PEI) in the Canadian Open 5-Pin Bowling Championships. If you are interested in seeing how I did you can find out from the links below.

As I was competing most of the week I didn’t have time to trade on Betfair. However, with the tournament finishing on Saturday I did get to trade the Memorial on Sunday. As I’m sure many of you already know, Tiger Woods has done it again.

Heading into the playoff I was looking in great shape to make a solid profit.

Tim Clark was in a great position to win the tournament. I backed Clark thinking I was getting great value. When Clark missed a putt to win the tournament on the first playoff hole I had to lay. This caused me to lose some profits but I did well.

Stanley Cup Rematch

The Detroit Red Wings are set to defend the Stanley Cup against the same team that they beat in the finals last season. This is the first time since 1984 that two teams have met in the finals in consecutive years. The Edmonton Oilers won that year, ending the New York Islanders reign of four straight titles. The Oilers’ 1984 championship started their run of five titles in seven years.

The Penguins have gained some experience but I don’t think they can handle Detroit just yet. The Red Wings have a better team than they did last season, acquiring Marian Hossa as a free agent in the off season. Hossa played in that final last season as a Penguin.

I think Detroit takes the Cup again. If they do so they will be the first team to repeat as Champions since they did in 1998.

Great Shot

LeBron James nails a three to win the game, just amazing. James kept repeating “Great Shot” in the post-game interview. What a player! I am speachless.

As you can see how I traded I didn’t like the Cavs chances of making a shot with one second on the clock.
