BRAVES GO FOR SWEEP
The Atlanta Braves come into tonight’s action winners of five straight. The Braves won their final two games in their series with the Florida Marlins and now will look to complete a four game sweep of the New York Mets.
The Braves started the series off with a 9-3 win on Monday and followed that up with a 9-2 win Tuesday. Last night the Braves got out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and held on for the 4-1 win. Tommy Hanson had a solid performance on the hill going seven strong, allowing just one hit and one walk.
Tonight it will be Tim Hudson looking to pick up where Hanson left off. Hudson is having a solid year with a 15-5 record and miniscule ERA of 2.24 through 27 starts. The former draft pick of the Oakland Athletics has now won six straight decisions after a strong performance against the Florida Marlins. Hudson went seven innings in that contest, allowing just one run on six hits on his way to striking out 13.
The Mets will counter tonight with Johan Santana. Santana is having an off year by his standards. The southpaw is 10-9 with a 3.02 ERA through 28 starts on the season. The Mets’ ace has had an issue with run support this season. In Santana’s past three starts he has gone at least seven innings only to pick up the loss in each of those starts. Santana has struggled against the Braves, in his career the 31-year old is just 2-6 in 11 starts.
I like the value with the Braves tonight. Atlanta is looking to hold on to their lead atop the National League East, while the Mets are just playing out the season.

TRADING ROLLERCOASTER
As you can see above I was settling in for a big loss yesterday in the Barclays. I did mange to turn it around and get into the green.
Tonight I have a straight bet that I like.
Florida Marlins -169

SAND TRAP? REALLY?
You don’t see many sand traps the the gallery is free to walk through and trample down. Dustin Johnson got ripped. Kaymer did play great and deserved to win. You can’t take anything away from him.
I have a couple picks for tonight, both from the NFL preseason game.
NY Giants +140
Over 32.5 -122

HOW ‘BOUT THEM COWBOYS
With Dallas playing their second preseason game I think there is value with them tonight.

YANKEES HIT THE ROAD
The New York Yankees aren’t playing their best baseball so far this month. The Yankees have won just three of their eight games as they just split a four game series with their long time rivals, the Boston Red Sox. After playing yesterday the Yankees travelled to Texas for a two-game series that starts tonight. The Rangers had yesterday off and I think have a little advantage with the pitching matchup even if Burnett starts for New York.
Texas -133

RED SOX FACE UPHILL FIGHT
The Red Sox will need to turn it on to stand a chance at winning the American League East. It needs to start tonight for Boston who sit six games behind the New York Yankees in the division. Many are coming to the realization that it isn’t the Red Sox year as they got yet another blow, Kevin Youkilis will miss the remainder of the season.
New York Yankees -140

PULLING UP THEIR SOX
The White Sox have moved into first place in the American Leauge Central thanks to some great play as of late. I’m going with them tonight as underdogs.

HOT RAYS
Tampa Bay is the hottest team in the majors right now. They also have the best record in the MLB. I’m going with them tonight with their big lefty on the mound.
Tampa Bay -175

BAG HOLDER
As you can see I had a rough trading day yesterday. Somehow Jeff Overton three-putted the 17th and I was left holding the bag. August 1st has not been kind to me, two years ago I lost over 7K on the same date.
Sometimes it’s hard not to let your emotions get involved. I really haven’t been trading on Betfair as much as usual because I have been getting into more trading in the stock market and have been doing quite well. That makes this loss easier to swallow.
Tonight I’m going back to the diamond for some action.
Boston -185

PIRATES HAVE HAD A ROCKY ROAD
The Pittsburgh Pirates haven’t had a winning season since 1992. They aren’t going to change that this year as the club is 30 games below .500. I’m not giving them much of a chance tonight against one of the best home teams in Major League Baseball.
Colorado -217
