BRAVES GO FOR SWEEP

The Atlanta Braves come into tonight’s action winners of five straight. The Braves won their final two games in their series with the Florida Marlins and now will look to complete a four game sweep of the New York Mets.

The Braves started the series off with a 9-3 win on Monday and followed that up with a 9-2 win Tuesday. Last night the Braves got out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and held on for the 4-1 win. Tommy Hanson had a solid performance on the hill going seven strong, allowing just one hit and one walk.

Tonight it will be Tim Hudson looking to pick up where Hanson left off. Hudson is having a solid year with a 15-5 record and miniscule ERA of 2.24 through 27 starts. The former draft pick of the Oakland Athletics has now won six straight decisions after a strong performance against the Florida Marlins. Hudson went seven innings in that contest, allowing just one run on six hits on his way to striking out 13.

The Mets will counter tonight with Johan Santana. Santana is having an off year by his standards. The southpaw is 10-9 with a 3.02 ERA through 28 starts on the season. The Mets’ ace has had an issue with run support this season. In Santana’s past three starts he has gone at least seven innings only to pick up the loss in each of those starts. Santana has struggled against the Braves, in his career the 31-year old is just 2-6 in 11 starts.

I like the value with the Braves tonight. Atlanta is looking to hold on to their lead atop the National League East, while the Mets are just playing out the season.
