Eagles top Giants
Brian Westbrook had two touchdowns as the Philadelphia Eagles gave the New York Giants
their second loss of the season. Some might say a reason for the loss is the absence of Giant’s receiver Plaxico Burress who accidentally shot himself on November 28th. Also, Westbrook seems to be healthier than he was in the middle of the season and is playing very well.
The eagles won the game 20-14. Two late touchdowns made the game look like more of an offensive battle than it was. The reality was that it was a defensive game with the Giants putting up just 211 yards of total offense. The reason for the low scoring game was high winds. This disrupted the pass game for both teams as they combined for just over 300 passing yards in the game. The wind direction was blowing along the length of the field so each team had two quarters which they had to go directly into the wind. Run plays were the most effective for each team in this situation. Usually run plays result in a tackle in bounds which causes the clock to keep running, almost shortening the game. If you reference a post I made a couple days ago titled NFL Weather I stressed the importance of checking the weather in games before placing any bets. This game was a prime opportunity to get an advantage bet by taking the under. Strong winds can be just as big or even bigger of a factor as snow or rain. The Dallas Cowboys/ Pittsburgh Steeler’s game looks to be a similar scenario.
Fantasy football tip: Fantasy football players may also want to check the weather before deciding on starters for that week.
