Pedro Martinez is set to make his first start of the season tonight. The Phillies signed Pedro to a one year, $1-million contract last month to see if he still had something to offer. It will be interesting to see what Pedro’s velocity and command will be like. If he doesn’t have that same velocity then his off-speed pitches do not have the same impact, especially his change up.
The Philles will also have a close eye on Martinez. Do not expect him to work deep into this game. That could be bad news for the Phillies as they may have to rely on a bullpen which has looked quite shaky as of late. I like going against the Phillies here. Not only is the pitching a question mark tonight but the bats are as well. Philadelphia put up just three hits in 12 innings last night and were swept by the Florida Marlins on the weekend. The Marlins outscored Philadelphia 21-9 over the three games.
