NHL Playoff Preview: Detroit vs. Columbus

This will be the Blue Jacket’s first appearance in the NHL playoffs. For Detroit, this year marks the 18th consecutive season that they are in the NHL’s post season. This is also the ninth straight season in which Detroit has gotten to 100 points in the regular season.

I think that this year’s version of the Red Wings is better than last year’s which won the cup. The 2008-09 version had three less points in the regular season. If you consider that the teams in the Central are better this season, then the 112 point total of this season is more impressive.

Just like with Chicago, Detroit has split time with their goaltending. Chris Osgood has played 46 games, while Ty Conklin appeared in 40. Detroit is a team that doesn’t give up many shots either. Both of these guys should be well rested and ready to go.

I think Detroit wins it all again this year.

Prediction: Detroit in 5.
