Sportsbooks are the most general form of betting in North America. If you are serious about sports betting I suggest having accounts on several sportsbooks as odds will slightly vary from each sportsbook. This will allow one to search for the best price for the specific bet that is wanted. Recreational bettors may also want accounts on several sites.
Generally sportsbooks will give 10 cent lines on most games. This means on bets which are suppose to be 50% chance of each side winning (most commonly spreads and totals) odds will be -110 (wager $110 to win $100). 11 out of 21 (52.4%) of these bets are needed to be won to break even. A professional bettor can find bets with even lines that have a larger chance than 52.4% chance of occuring.
